Intentionality
Usually when I tell clients to become intentional, they kind of nod and smile but they rarely know what exactly I mean. An intention is a thought put in play towards an intended thing or plan. We are constantly told to set goals, meet deadlines, get to the bottom line. But rarely do we set out intention, which is an extremely present feeling; that in making, you cannot fail. It eliminates a required result but instead connects us to our path to get where we want to go.
So, when I speak about intentionality I am talking about putting your mind to what you want to see in yourself. Many (if not all) of my clients fail miserably at their goals and then follow that with a devastating shame spiral, which often results in depression, anxiety, or worse. When I’m asking them to be intentional, I’m asking them to dump the goal and see the dream. I’m asking them to pursue the intention of those goals. Self-control, peace, kindness…
Intentions are like magnets; the more we declare them, believe in them, and act in ways to manifest them, the more powerful and real they become. An intention doesn’t have to be a trait, it can be a quality or a mantra.
Try this….
Take 5 deep breaths and complete these sentences:
“Today, I will (be)_____________. And I will let go of____________. I will embrace____________. I will honor my____________ and love my___________. I am grateful for__________. My intention for today is_____________”
When you follow your intentions, you will feel happier because your life will be small scores of intention strung together. You will be able to forgive yourself. You will finally be free, because you will be living your life on purpose.
