Our New Favorite: Happier with Gretchen Rubin
Our new favorite thing is the Happier podcast with Gretchen Rubin (but more widely, podcasts in general) and here’s why:
They are mindful
It’s kind of a unique experience, to be focused on the incoming information in a mindless manner. The information is literally being poured into your brain without even trying, but that’s okay because it’s informational…which brings us to the next reason that podcasts are so awesome.
They are educational
We know that we should love learning and most of the time, we do. What sometimes happens, is that information comes to us in the most boring way possible. Think back to your favorite class in school–more than likely, you loved that class because of the manner in which the information was delivered. The truth is, fun and learning are the same thing! Podcasts (especially Happier!) allows you to learn at your own pace, on your own time. The delivery makes a difference!
They are positive
The messages are positive! Positive thinking is a huge stepping stone to a place of authentic happiness. Positive thinking changes the way we walk, talk, think and it even effects our health. As stated by Norman Peale in The Power of Positive Thinking, “Our happiness depends on the habit of the mind that we cultivate.” So the question is, how do we cultivate a mind of happiness? By pouring happy in.
They are easy to access
Podcasts are one of the easiest ways to access information, apart from Google. Did you know that there are podcasts about technology, cooking, organization, psychology…and much much more! If you haven’t done it yet, go to your Apple Store or your Play Store and download the PocketCasts App and start exploring the 115,000 plus podcasts that are available!
You can also listen to a podcast absolutely anywhere. Even in places where you don’t have internet (there goes Facebook), you can download episodes ahead of time and listen to as many as you want!
They promote meaningful discussion
Between social media and a busy work schedule, you may be struggling to talk to your spouse about anything other than what needs to be done around the house, what practice the kids have to get to or whether the dishes in the dishwasher are dirty or clean. Podcasts may promote more meaningful discussion between you and your loved ones or co-workers and may encourage better relationships and ultimately, a more enriched life.
